Real People
Leading Real Change

At Rebuilding Unity, we don’t offer quick fixes—we offer real solutions. We meet people where they are and walk with them as they move toward where they want to be. Whether you’re looking to grow, stabilize your life, or get a fresh start, we provide the tools, support, and community to help you succeed.

Empowering Chicago’s West Side - One Life at a Time

We believe strong communities are built by investing in people first. Based on Chicago’s West Side, we provide life-changing support to youth, individuals, and families through programs focused on youth empowerment, housing stability, and reentry services for justice-involved residents. Whether it’s helping a teen discover their leadership potential or supporting someone on their journey to rebuild after incarceration, we’re committed to restoring hope and creating opportunities for lasting success.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to empower individuals and families on Chicago’s West Side by providing youth development, housing support, and reentry services rooted in dignity, equity, and the power of second chances. We are committed to restoring hope, rebuilding lives, and strengthening communities through transformative, person-centered support.

What We Do

Empowering Youth
Futures

We invest in young people through mentorship, leadership training, and life skills development. Our youth programs are designed to build confidence, resilience, and purpose—helping the next generation lead with strength.

Justice-Involved Reentry Services

We provide critical support for individuals impacted by the justice system, including career coaching, housing referrals, and community-based resources that support dignity, stability, and reintegration.

Housing Stability & Homelessness Support

We help individuals and families facing housing insecurity gain access to emergency shelter, transitional housing, and long-term solutions that promote independence, stability, pride, and self-reliance.

 Creating Lasting Change in Chicago

“We believe in the power of second chances because we’ve lived it. Rebuilding Unity Foundation exists to show people that no matter where you’ve been, you deserve the opportunity to start again—with resources, support, and hope.”

Lashay, Founder

Meet Lashay

Hi, I’m Lashay Drane, the founder of the Rebuilding Unity Foundation and a proud native of Chicago’s West Side. I was raised in a close-knit community and hold dear the memories of a childhood where kids could truly be kids. From a young age, I was told I had a kind heart and a natural drive to help others—something my mother always believed would one day make a difference.

As I grew older, I watched my community change. Violence increased, homelessness became more visible, and too many lives were derailed by the justice system. I faced my own challenges, including the risk of homelessness, becoming a teen mother, and navigating the legal system. Despite the setbacks, I never lost sight of who I was or what I was meant to do. Today, I use my lived experiences to inspire change, rebuild hope, and restore unity in communities that need it most.
